That’s why we have no love in us

Because we are too scared to dream

Of all the possibilities

That our hearts can weave

Of the reckless ways, and reckless days

Of the pathways that we seek

On the passages we wish strangers meet

Opening and closing our souls to grief

Watching the clouds as our eyes weep

Oh, how splendid it is, to be alive, and feel the gold beneath our feet

That’s why we don’t love anyone

Because we are too scared to show

Because the way we see

Is not the way we feel

And the way we feel

Is not the way we tell

And the way we tell

Is not the way we show

And the way we show, is by showing that we don’t know and by saying it

with a

no

And that’s why we have no love in us

Because we keep ourselves to ourselves

And persist at the shallow game of love and war

With roses and gold and silver lore

To show others and ourselves

This is what matters, this is what sells

Because settling, and settling well

Is easier to quell

Is easier not to dwell

What our hearts and minds suffer silently

Without whispered words, without tomorrows, and without persistence

We give in, to the world

Simply

Without resistance

That’s why we have no love in us

Because

For our individual lonely lives

We remain speechless

We seek no justice
